Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) on Zvox Coupons

What is ZVOX Audio?

"ZVOX Audio was founded in 2003 by industry veterans Tom Hannaher (Best Buy, Advent, Apple Computer, Cambridge SoundWorks) and George Samuels (Ohm, EPI, Genesis, Cambridge SoundWorks). The ZVOX VP of Product Development is Jarl Salmela (ADS, MB Quart, Cambridge SoundWorks), one of the best amplified speaker designers (if not the best) on the planet. Our goal is to make high-quality, high-performance sound systems that are easy to use. To achieve that goal, we have ""reinvented"" the TV sound system several times. In 2004 we introduced the ZVOX 315, a system CNET called the first commercially successful sound bar. In 2008 we came out with the ZVOX 550 -- the world's first SoundBase style home theater system. In 2012, responding to a growing crisis of incomprehensible TV dialogue, we introduced our AccuVoice feature -- which uses hearing aid technology to make voices clear, even at low volumes. Being an innovator has allowed ZVOX to survive and grow in a highly, highly competitive field. Virtually every other company making products like ours is a huge, billion dollar enterprise. And virtually every one of those companies copies our ideas (or at least tries to copy our ideas) on a regular basis. We are the little company that ""inspires"" the big companies. We enjoy our David vs. Goliath position in the marketplace. It lets us have fun and try new things without the approval of some Wall Street investment group. We may not drive Bentleys, but we have a lot of fun."

WHY IS THE COMPANY CALLED "ZVOX"?

Tom Hannaher, the founder of ZVOX, grew up in Fargo, North Dakota, where his father worked as a disc jockey at KVOX, a local radio station (“The Voice of the Red River Valley”). When Tom was a boy he often went into work with his dad – and even joined in on a few broadcasts. His fascination with audio equipment began in those studios. When he started ZVOX in 2003, Tom wanted a four-letter brand, so he started with KVOX (which he couldn't use), and changed the K to a Z. That's our story, and we're stickin' to it. (Note:it's pronounced Zee-Vox).

WHY DOES MY SPEAKER SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF A PROGRAM?

We've made the Auto Standby feature as sensitive as we possibly could. The problem is if there's a weak audio signal coming into the speaker, the speaker will start to count down to turn off because the audio fell below a certain threshold. All ZVOX speakers come with an 'Auto Standby' feature activated, which will automatically power the soundbar off after 20 minutes of not receiving an audio signal. Some televisions may cause the soundbar to turn off in the middle of a program due to a weak audio signal. If you're running into this issue please follow the steps below for stopping this issue.

HOW DO I FIND OUT WHICH MODEL ZVOX I HAVE?

For older sound base systems, if you look at the rear of the ZVOX system you will see the model printed on the back panel for example 555, 570,770. If you own the ZVOX Sound bar systems you will see the serial number on the back or bottom panel. The model number is the first three digits, for example 157, 203, 155 or 380. ST157 6540654 1233 Please call 866-367-9869 for assistance.

DOES ZVOX WORK WITH A SAMSUNG TVs?

ZVOX systems will work with any brand of television provided the TV model in question has either a digital audio output or an analog audio output. There were several older Samsung TV models that did not have any type of audio outputs on them at all. So those model TVs are not compatible with any type of audio system.

CAN I USE IT AS A CENTER CHANNEL/IN CONJUNCTION WITH A SURROUND SOUND SYSTEM?

No, you cannot. There is no way to integrate an amplified speaker system, like a ZVOX system, into a surround sound audio/video receiver. Those A/V surround sound receivers are made to power non-amplified speakers that use positive and negative speaker wire leads.

HOW CAN I HOOK A SUBWOOFER UP TO IT?

If your ZVOX model has a subwoofer output jack on the rear panel, you can connect that to a powered subwoofer. The powered subwoofer would need to have an internal crossover selector, also called a low-pass filter, for filtering out the mid and high frequencies. This is because the subwoofer output jack on the ZVOX is a full-range monaural audio output.

CAN YOU PAIR ANOTHER REMOTE TO THE SYSTEM?

Yes. The ZVOX system can learn the infrared remote commands of one remote control and can sometimes learn two of the same exact remote depending on the preferred remote model. If you have a more advanced remote it may have specific alternative instructions than our universal steps. Follow the link below to our ‘Support’ section of our website and search the preferred remotes make or model and you will see video instructions. This video shows the whole learning process in real-time.

CAN YOU USE ZVOX AS A CENTER CHANNEL?

No, it cannot be used as a center channel speaker. There is no way to integrate an amplified speaker system, like a ZVOX system, into a surround sound audio/video receiver. Those A/V surround sound receivers are made to power non-amplified speakers that use positive and negative speaker wire leads.

CAN YOU USE WIRELESS HEADPHONES WITH THE ZVOX System?

You can use the ZVOX wireless headphones in conjunction with a ZVOX Accuvoice TV speaker but a wireless Bluetooth transmitter would connect directly to the ZVOX system or the TV's audio output allowing the audio to transfer to the wireless headphones. Click here to visit the ZVOX Support Page for more information and recommendations or please call 866-367-9869 for more assistance.

WILL IT HELP ME WITH MY HEARING PROBLEM?

The majority of customers find that adding a ZVOX system to their TV immediately improves the overall sound quality and dialogue clarity. For our customers with more severe hearing problems, we recommend one of our advanced models with 6 modes of Voice Boost, the AV203 or AV155. Each new level delivers stronger dialogue emphasis, while minimizing the non-vocal parts of the soundtrack. Many people claim they no longer need to use closed-captioning to watch TV. Because everyone’s hearing issues are unique, we give you 60 days to try the speaker system out in YOUR home with YOUR acoustics and - most importantly - YOUR ears. If it doesn’t help you hear the TV better, return it to us with no hassle. Please call 866-367-9869 for more assistance.
